Everything We Know About the ‘Dungeons & Dragons’ Movie Coming in 2023

TTRPG fans were thrilled to hear that Actor and Fellow TTRPG Fan Joe Manganiello had worked on a script for a new D&D movie that would feature top talent in the industry as well as shine a light on the beloved game. Though Manganiello has been an advocate for the film in Hollywood (and D&D/TTRPG’s in general), there are no official statements regarding his involvement in the upcoming Dungeons & Dragons movie.

We hope that changes soon and we get additional voices and appearances by those who are synonymous with the game for various reasons. Despite the hush-hush nature of Hollywood, there is still quite a bit that we do know about the upcoming film adaption and we hope you are as thrilled as we are to see one of our favorite games come to life on the silver screen.

Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley (Spider-Man: Homecoming) have signed on to direct and write the screenplay for the Dungeons & Dragons movie based on a story created by Michael Gillo who was inspired by the original content created by Gary Gygax and Dave Arneson. Paramount Pictures will act as the distributor for the movie upon its release in 2023. It is currently unknown if the title will simultaneously premiere on Paramount+ streaming service or be added to the service at a later date.

Dungeons & Dragons will star Chris Pine, Michelle Rodriguez, Justice Smith, Regé-Jean Page, Chloe Coleman, and Daisy Head in undisclosed roles, with Hugh Grant as the antagonist named Forge Fletcher, Sophia Lillis as Doric, and Jason Wong as Dralas.

Filming is currently underway in Iceland and Ireland, which have been hot spots for filming due to the natural wonders of both countries as well as the privacy they provide for production teams amid the pandemic. The existing architecture and landmarks also add to the authentic feel of the movie and will likely help with the budget. Currently, the film is set to premiere in theaters on March 3, 2023, after several release date delays caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
