As the season’s change and the darker hours take hold on the start and end of our day it can be hard to get motivated to leave our cozy and warm beds. This is exactly why we tested out the “Orc” Bacon recipe in the Heroes’ Feast Cookbook this month!
Author’s Note: I may make some flavor modifications for preference, but this shouldn’t detract from the overall experience and I encourage anyone who cooks or bakes to add adjustments and make the meal or dish more enjoyable for yourself! It’s about exploration, so don’t be afraid to try new things as well as tried and true practices. As always, you can find the ingredient list at the bottom of this article. Now on to the cooking!

“Orc” Bacon is one of the simplest recipes from the Heroes’ Feast Cookbook, which makes it an excellent starting point for those learning how to cook or to add simple yet effective changes to the breakfast go-to. Before prepping the baking sheet, be sure to pre-heat your oven and mix your seasonings so it has time to dissolve the sugar.
As I shared before, this recipe is very easy and user-friendly. The only thing I would highly recommend is using a cooking rack as the recipe calls for. The rack helps to prevent the bacon from adhering to the pan with the sticky seasoning as it caramelizes during the baking process. After the initial bake, I added half of the mixture by using a basting brush on one side of the bacon then returned it to the oven.
Near the end of cooking, I followed the recipe and flipped the bacon, and made sure to season the other side with the remaining mixture. Then returned the tray to the oven. After the bacon finished cooking I got a great color on the meat and the flavor was fantastic!
Not only will I be trying this again, but this will likely become my go-to recipe for making bacon at breakfast time. The “Orc” Bacon was a hit for the whole family and added a new flavor profile to our meal. 10/10 highly recommend this recipe, especially for those who are new(er) to cooking. This is a great starter recipe and will allow you to teach new skills to aspiring chefs!
